How can EFT relieve a pain from my body permanently?

Many pains are symptoms, really, of long-held unresolved emotions and chronic stress. The stress creates chemical responses in your cells, which can develop into physical pain. When the EFT tapping addresses your precise fear or blocking thought (most often this is unknown to us), the cells release the stored chemicals and then there’s nothing left to maintain the pain you were experiencing in a physical form.

How can EFT help me run faster, give me a more powerful tennis serve or improve the yardage and accuracy of my golf swing? How can it help me with confidence and allow me to win?

With competitive athletics, there is always a legion of thoughts and concerns about your skill set, your competition, your score, the crowd, the weather — you name it. Each of those things can create negative thoughts and blocks. By identifying your blocks we can tap on them very precisely and remove the tension in your body and build optimal confidence in your ability to outperform your usual game, and your competition. Whatever the sport, the EFT method, used skillfully, can clear these blocks on a physiological level and literally set you up with the physiology of success.

Can EFT actually “cure” my performance anxiety as a musician?

The short answer is “yes!” Performance anxiety as a musician can come from many sources --- lack of skill and lack of preparation are something we examine before anything else. I most often work with musicians who have the skill, are well-prepared, and are struggling with other anxieties. There are common anxieties to clear, such as the “stage fright” phenomenon that has different specific roots for each client. We can successfully clear these and we also clear the more complex non-conscious roots of anxiety so that anxious distractions are wiped out and the musician’s whole physiology is “in tune,” literally, with every aspect of the music.

How hard is it to learn how to do EFT for myself?

It’s not hard at all. That’s one of the extraordinary appeals of EFT. You can learn to do it yourself and have a very powerful tool right at your fingertips! (I couldn’t resist the pun!) Many of my clients from years back will call, telling me how they use EFT for many diverse areas as situations arise. Clients vary tremendously. Some begin tapping right away but the vast majority need a few sessions before they feel assured they have identified the right things to tap on and how to keep deeper progressions going. I encourage clients not to expect themselves to be tapping on any consistent level after only one EFT session. As with any skill, it takes some practice to develop confidence and artfulness. The more you experience EFT, the more you realize the many depths of clearing it can do for you.

Can EFT be used on children?

Yes, EFT with children can be very effective. You can tap on your child and say the necessary statements yourself. You also can tap on yourself as if you were the child and say the statements yourself. This may sound strange; however, the use of “surrogate” EFT is very powerful.

Can EFT help someone that doesn’t really want any help or is very skeptical?

Yes, EFT will work even if a person is skeptical! I encourage anybody, especially people skeptical of this method, to try it with a skilled practitioner. Not only is it satisfying to get the results you wanted, but you learn a fundamental life lesson — there are many things of tremendous value if only you are willing to try them.

Regarding people who “don’t really want help,” I’ve never met a person who doesn’t want relief from the problems that block them from health and happiness. However, the attitude of not really wanting help, or being highly resistant to it, is simply a psychological screen of protection. In my opinion, EFT, when done artfully, is one of the most effective tools for identifying and safely clearing this defensive, sabotaging posture.

What is Energy Psychology anyway?

Psychology is a term we typically think of with “talk therapy” and its many theories and methods of working with people to solve their problems through mental processes.

Energy Psychology (EP) is different in that it centers on the fact that the body is a literal energy system (remember Einstein’s E=mc2) and healing must take place at the physical as well as mental level. EP posits that psychological problems (this includes blocks in your sports performance, music performance, business performance, etc.) are a reflection of disturbed bio-energetic patterns. The EP methods help clients learn tools to directly influence these bio-energetic patterns in the body. Clients learn skills to self-regulate, rapidly reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, anger, trauma and other conditions. EP provides tools to quickly access unconscious beliefs and resistances, release limiting beliefs and blocked emotions, promote readiness to change and strengthen positive attitudes. EP tools such as EFT and others provide simple, self-empowering techniques to change beliefs and perceptions that impact one’s life at a cellular level.

Other than peak performance, what else can I use EFT for?

EFT can relieve or eliminate many problems, since most have their roots at the cellular level. EFT is used to reduce addictive behaviors, such as cravings for food, drugs, alcohol and cigarettes; physical pain, chronic and acute, such as migraines, lower back pain, shoulder pain, muscular pain; a wide range of chronic illnesses and disorders such as fibromyalgia and laryngitis; phobias, such as fear of heights, snakes, birds, claustrophobia; difficult emotions, including grieving loss, unresolved anger, sadness and jealousy; and relationship issues both past and present. EFT is excellent for working with test anxiety or academic achievement, public speaking, stress and overwhelm, trauma, depression, panic attacks, allergies and a host of other concerns. Feel free to contact me and we can discuss what issues we can work on together or if some other referral is more appropriate.

I don’t get how the tapping helps – can you explain?

The science of EFT is backed by both anecdotal and scientific research, which have shown that our skin receptors are very sensitive, especially when stimulated on specific acupuncture points. Tapping specific acupuncture points while making statements about your specific disturbing thought or pain will send signals to the brain that help achieve a more whole-brained state. The negative charge (such as fear, anxiety or anger) will neutralize and you now see the situation in a neutral, non-charged state. You can then stimulate with tapping additional sets of positive beliefs and emotions that bring about optimal states physiologically, emotionally, mentally and behaviorally. See our page, "How does EFT work?"

Is this really effective or do I feel better because the tapping is just a distraction?

I’ve had a handful of people suggest that tapping merely serves as a distraction and that it is the repetition of certain phrases that causes the EFT to be so effective. On one hand, I guess it doesn’t matter, since these people obtained powerful results, where nothing else had helped them. But the science of EFT is important. The truth is, you can distract and use repetition all you want, and you will never get the powerful clearing and optimal results you get with the EFT process of physiologically shifting the disturbance out of the cell receptor sites.

How do sessions work over the phone? Wouldn’t I need to see you?

Phone sessions are very effective and even advantageous in terms of clients’ convenience and saving travel time and money. Some clients find meeting over the phone more comfortable, preserving their need for more privacy. My practice is about 50/50. I have worked with dancers and sales reps on both coasts. The relationship of trust, integrity and depth is the essential constant, whether in person or over the phone. I can easily teach people where to tap and I guide the sessions based on the information the client gives me verbally as well as non-verbally.

Do you work with people outside of the Missoula area?

Yes. I have worked with clients as close as Missoula and as far away as London. I work with most international and out-of-state clients over the phone. Sometimes, these clients may choose to fly or drive in for occasional "intensives," however most of their sessions are over the phone.

Is it true that my EFT fees may be tax-deductible?

In many cases, peak performance work is tax-deductible. In the United States, educational expenses “undertaken to maintain or improve" business and professional skills are deductible (Treas. Reg.1-162-5, Coughlin vs. Commissioner, 203F 2d 307). Please contact your tax professional for more details.

Will my health insurance cover my sessions with you?

It may, depending on the problem we are working to solve. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado and most medical insurance carriers cover licensed mental health professionals. Often, when addressing your concerns, we may find the need to treat an adjustment disorder or some other concern that does qualify as a reimbursable condition with your insurance company. You and I will discuss this and decide together what the best approach is for you.

I'd like to work with you. What's the first step?

Read through enough of my website to feel you have a good sense of what I do. Then simply call 406-531-7225 to talk about how we can assist you and will give me a good grasp of your situation and your goals, and help you decide if you want to undertake EFT treatment. You will want to have ample privacy so that you can openly share any concerns you have.

I have a question not answered here. What should I do?

Please check my Resources page for access to a wealth of information on EFT or you can contact me and I'll get back to you!

We worked through a whole lifetime of me not feeling pretty enough, smart enough, being a disappointment and hiding what I labeled as my imperfections. EFT was a real miracle for me!
